Studio 303 presents the 17th edition of Edgy Women during two hyperactive weeks of artistic expression at MainLine Theatre (March 17th to 20th) and at Tangente (March 24th to 28th).
The festival will open March 17th at MainLine Theatre with a 3-night run of Neon Nightz – featuring Toronto’s illustrious Scandelles in an exploration of Montreal’s strip-club scene. On March 20th, make way for the Edgy Boum! This year, the delirious Edgy Challenge and the festive Edgy Party merge into one deliciously orchestrated evening that will take over the whole MainLine space. At 8pm, the Edgy Challenge (hosted by the exuberant Nathalie Claude & Dayna McLeod), features 8 artists who will present short works created fast and furiously around themes divulged to them a month earlier. As of 10pm, the Edgy Party will present performative intallations until 3am with Coral Short & Lamathilde, Nikol Mikus & Alyson Wishnousky, Johnny Forever, among others, as well as a dance party with DJ Noisy Nora.
The Tangente series offers 3 distinct programmes. On March 24th, for her 4th invitation to the Edgy Women festival, performer Jess Dobkin presents her most recent work, Everything I’ve got. On March 25th and 26th, the EN ON evening will bring together Yumiko Yoshioka (butoh, Berlin), Lise Vigneault (performance), and Karen Sherman (dance-performance, Minneapolis). Yumiko was last seen in Montreal seven years ago at Studio 303, and in ten years ago for 2 sold-out shows at Usine C. On March 27th and 28th, the Primordial Vaudeville evening will close the festival with Krin Haglund (circus), Shannon Cochrane (performance, Toronto), and La Zampa (dance, Marseille). Krin Haglund has worked with les 7 Doigts de la Main and La Clique among others.
