Statement:

Queen West Art Crawl (QWAC) is a three day festival running from September 12th – 14th, 2008. The QWAC mandate is to strengthen the cultural fabric of the community by celebrating and cultivating the unique character, diversity and ethos of the Queen Street West area of Toronto. As one of the city’s most precious cultural resources – Queen West is a natural habitat for individual artists, not-for-profit arts organizations, artist run centres as well as a dynamic range of creative enterprises and enterprising creatives who live, work and play in the neighbourhood.

As the festival has expanded over the last five years, the expected attendance of QWAC will see upwards of 45,000 visitors stroll through Trinity Bellwoods Park, the main hub for the festival. At the Outdoor Arts Show & Sale, art crawlers will be able to connect with over 230 artists and shop at stalls filled with their jury-selected works. QWAC also incorporates performance artists and 2 interactive kids zones for junior art crawlers. Spreading west along Queen West from Spadina to Roncesvalles, numerous venues participate as satellite locations for the Community Partner Crawl. Art installations, performances and much more can be found in galleries, businesses, restaurants, cafes, community organizations and public spaces. And finally in the heart of Parkdale crawlers will be able to absorb the last rays of summer at the live entertainment area.
