Sore for Punching you

AS I have explored and built my career, I have consciously crossed the boundaries between art forms and between cultures. My background is in contemporary dance and is the basis of my creative work. From it I choreograph dance pieces, direct traditional and experimental theatre, and create performance and film installations.
Many of my artistic expressions have been influenced by my travels throughout different parts of the world, most recently and significantly West Africa.
The yearning I have to wander, learn from adventure and new experience has shown up subconsciously in my work, as for the years I was unable to travel, I created a series of solos featuring women being chained to inanimate objects and work that often represented being stuck or confined. My inspiration comes from the act of exploring.
I am an artist who sees the world as a huge place to explore and yet so tightly woven together in our common wants, needs and experiences as a human race. I believe a true expression of this world could only be communicated by experiencing this planet and inserting my love and curiousity of diveristy into my work, whether it be spiritual, political, or concerned with day-to-day survival/living.
My vision as an artist leads me to seek out unlikely partners and artists who approach their craft in ways I cannot understand in hopes that I will learn valuable lessons from them. As a result, I have worked with ballerinas, film makers, theatre practitioners, visual artists, and traditional West African dancers among many more cross disciplinary collaborations.
