Western Front Society
One of Canada's first artist-run centres, the Western Front is a laboratory for contemporary art. For over thirty
years it has developed a reputation as a centre for experimental practice and perfomance. Five programs focus on the production and presentation of exhibitions, performance art, new music, media-including video, and audio productio- publications, and an arts magazine. A long-established residency program invites local, national, and international
artists to create and present new work in a multidisciplinary environment.
The society's mandate is to encourage and promote the role of the artist in determining the cultural ecology, to support research and development in contemporary artistc forms, and to create an interdisciplinary environment that sustains local, national, and international artistic communities through presentations and exchange.
