Eastern Bloc Call for Submissions: Department of Public Nuisances

Calls for participation:  Montréal, Quebec | Eastern Bloc, 7240 rue Clark, 2e étage | 01/30/2012 (All day)

Department of Public Nuisances

Deadline: 30 January 2012

Department of Public Nuisances is an experiment in collaborative art making, public intervention politics and experimental documentation practices. This project demonstrates the versatility of electronic arts in triggering actions and reactions between objects and ideas, creators and users. It has research, production and exhibition components, grouping emerging artists with mentors in the field to create new boundary stretching works.

Initiated in 2011, DNP stems from an interest to investigate – through intervention and documentation-based practices – the interruption of our public routines and the limits of personal space. Artists are invited to collaborate together to co-create a work that is meant to nuisance our day-to-day lives, while helping us see our local realities in new light. Eastern Bloc is looking for emerging artists to participate in the conception, production and dissemination of a collective intervention-based project for DNP.

Selected artists will receive a residency artist fee and an exhibition fee, in line with the CARFAC fee schedule. Département des Nuisances Publiques is a project in part funded by a project grant from the Canada Council for the Arts.

Each candidate will have to submit the following documents to Eastern Bloc’s programming committee:
• Completed application form
• CV
• Supporting visual or audio documents of past works (max 10 digital images, jpeg format, and/or 2 video/audio excerpts, Quicktime compatible formats)

Please send completed dossiers by January 30th 2012, to the following address:
