Performance as Knowledge

This working group focuses on how performance can be a mode of knowledge, how performing is a mode of creating, tracing, disseminating, and articulating knowledge. More specifically, we are examining:

1. What are the correlates (not certificates) of intentionality in collective gesture? How do movements slide between non-intentional and intentional? How can we characterize collective - individual gesture?

2. How different scales of temporal pattern register against one another in a person's experience of them? What differences does it make to have interactive vs. pre-recorded media in a performative event, for first and third person experiences?

3. How can a performer in an activated space share equal agency with her environment in shaping a performative event? How can this be done in a meaningful, compelling way?
