Judith Marcuse Projects (JMP) is a 25 year-old not-for-profit performing arts organisation working in the disciplines of dance, theatre, music, film, and new media to provide a creative voice and expressive platform for youth. We are driven by the simple but profound idea that art is a powerful force for positively transforming lives, catalyzing social change, and contributing to the development of civil society. JMP is committed to issue-based artistic creation and community collaboration locally, nationally, and internationally. It is a widely recognized pioneer in the growing field of arts as a transformative force in community development. Commitment to artistic excellence is complemented by a comprehensive focus on youth mentorship, education, and community outreach.

JMP unites young people, artists, environmentalists, educators, social activists, healers, and elders in purposeful and creative common cause. Youth who are at-risk and street-involved, mentally and physically challenged, members of First Nations, and immigrants are welcomed into the circle of our work because their voices are often marginalized in our society. By encouraging collaboration, sharing best practices, and fostering new approaches, JMP is providing a much needed and welcoming nexus for those involved in community engagement and transformation. We are financially responsible and are operating without any deficit.

At the heart of JMP's mandate is the ongoing professional creation of relevant, compelling, and accessible, live multimedia performances, as well as film, video, television, and Internet creation for local, provincial, national and international audiences. JMP's acclaimed five-year projects include ICE (youth suicide), FIRE (youth violence), and currently, EARTH (environmental sustainability and social justice through the eyes of youth). Through its multi-disciplinary creative process, JMP brings artists together to share their practices, encouraging cross-fertilization of ideas while building strong, enduring connections within a global arts community. The Society was founded in 1980. The company's artistic director has been Judith Marcuse since its inception.
