Mountain Standard Time Performative Art Festival
The Mountain Standard Time Performative Art Festival Society (MST) is committed to presenting a wide spectrum of performative art that serves to raise social consciousness and contribute to contemporary art discourses. Through gallery-based and site-specific performative works, workshops and panel discussions, MST strives to support and develop performative arts practices within local, national and international artistic communities. The term performative refers to artworks that originate from a visual arts or media arts discourse and involve the live presence of the artist. The interdisciplinary nature of these works is represented through combinations of sound, video, film, elements of dance, spoken word, or live web streaming. The primary activity of the MST Society is the programming of a biennial performative art festival, Mountain Standard Time (M:ST) that brings together a wide range of local, national and international artists from all experience levels, backgrounds and performative disciplines.
This year the MST Society will be presenting Mountain Standard Time 3 (M:ST 3) scheduled for October 7 through to 31, 2005. Inclusively presenting a wide range of media, M:ST 3 is responsive to current issues in contemporary art on an international level. The festival fosters discourse crucial for the growth and progression of the performative arts and an important inter-regional and international dialogue through panel discussions, workshops and dissemination activities. M:ST 3 is supported by the collaborative efforts of the nine local arts organizations involved in its development as well as through broader networks nationally and internationally. This reflects an important initiative among these organizations to share both resources and knowledge and provide better accessibility to contemporary performative art practices in our constituency.
