IAPAO, Statement

In response to a great need that has been expressed over the past several years by active international perfomance artists and organizers, the International Association of Performance Art Organizers (IAPAO) has formed officially to pursue the following objectives:

- IAPAO will reaffirm the importance and legitimacy of performance art and assist with the realization of said genre events and exhibitions around the world. Continuing and increasing the propagation of performance art histories along with the activities of today's artists and organizers will educate the international community about performance art's vital relevance and its important traditions of actions, archives and artefacts.
- IAPAO will strengthen the resolve of the international performance art community by developing better economics and social conditions for performance artists and organizers internationally. By forming officially and creating an entity of international representation, IAPAO has the ability to build stronger and longer lasting relationships with funders and supporters who will, by the nature of the organization, be providing assistance to a greater range of activities within the genre.
- IAPAO will continue the development of exhibition opportunities for artists and possibilities for organizers to host conferences, events and seminars. Creating resource centers (both live and web-based) that are easily accessible will not only open the doors of opportunity to all involved in the genre, but will also strenghten the network among artists and festivals world-wide.
- IAPAO believes performance art to be the most powerful of the contemporary genres with rich and relevant histories. We feel that our efforts will create a new found knowledge and appreciation for the genre internationally as well as increasing the opportunities for its practitioners and organizers.
